We often have people come to view us here at
boarding kennels Nottingham to see how large the kennels are. Everyone
is very happy that they are larger than most local kennels both in the
accommdation and outside runs. But while you are away on holiday or
business, then you want to be sure that your pet is happy and well
cared for just as if he was at home. Some kennels you visit perhaps
seem more like prison cells but what size of area would your pet be
happy in?
The answer to the question depends partly on what
breed and size of dog you own. Obviously the bigger the breed the
larger area he would need but some breeds do need more space
than others as they are more active than others.
The local authorities come around every year to
inspect the dog
kennels and will make sure that all kennels under their licensing
jurisdiction are large enough to accommodate
dogs comfortably, however some smaller kennels maybe are not licensed,
although of course they should be.
The minimum size a dog kennel has to be is
actually 20 square feet or 1.9 sq metres for the sleeping area
and should there be an exercise area, then that should be 26 sq ft or
2.46 sq m. These are the legal requirements in the UK,
but may of course be different in other countries.
There are no stipulations or regulations here in
the UK that a kennel should have an outside run, but in that case then
the dogs should be given at least two walks per day just as
they should at home and indeed receive here. Outside runs should
have an area where the dog can find shelter from bad weather conditions
or in the hot sunshine we sometimes get in summer, if they so wish.
Unlike us, some dogs are quite happy to sit out in the rain though,
even if they have the choice to shelter in the dry!
These days, most kennels will look after your pet
well and have reasonable sized areas in which you dog can stay. However
you will be well advised to go visit your choice of boarding kennels in
Nottingham so you both you and your dog can be truly happy.
